POWDERED COATING

PART 1 GENERAL

1.01 SECTION INCLUDES

A. Powdered coating applied to aluminum surfaces.

1.02 RELATED SECTIONS

1.03 SUBMITTALS

A. Properly identified product data from powdered coating manufacturer, including recommended procedures for color matching, applying and precautions to be observed.

B. Manufacturer's full range of custom colors, texture and gloss for review and selection. Once the colors, texture and gloss are selected, submit a 3 inch by 5 inch by .040 inch aluminum sample indicating each selected color, texture and gloss.

C. Letter from Powdered Coating Manufacturer stating the length of time this manufacturer has produced the specified coating, a list of three projects for which the coating has been furnished, instruction on application and quality assurance to fabricators and membership in the Powder Coating Institute.

D. Manufacturer's data sheet including cleaning recommendations for powdered coated surfaces.

1.04 REFERENCES

A. American Architectural Manufacturer's Association (AAMA):

1. AAMA 605.2-90 - Voluntary Specification for High Performance Organic Coatings On Architectural Extrusions and Panels, with the following exceptions.

a. Five year South Florida exposure test will be met effective March 1996.

b. Due to environmental considerations acid chromate surface preparation is not used.

B. American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM):

1. ASTM D117-89 Guide to Test Methods and Specifications For Electrical Insulating Oils of Petroleum Origin

2. ASTM D522-85 Test Method For Elongation of Attached Organic Coatings With Conical Mandrel Apparatus

1.05 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. The manufacturer of the powdered coating shall have produced the coating products for not less than five years and shall be capable of furnishing both products and instructions for touch-up.

B. The manufacturer of the powdered coating shall provide each applicator or fabricator of items which receive the coating with 3 by 5 inch samples of color(s) to be used, as standard of uniform quality during the shop finishing operation.

C. Items to be coated in the powdered coating shop shall be protected in their bare metal state while in transit to the powdered coating shop.

1.06 GUARANTY

A. After final acceptance, furnish Owner written guarantee against defective organic powdered coating material and application for a period of six years.
